Types of coverage we provide
Provides coverage to repair/replace your car if it's damaged in an at-fault accident, hit and run or with an uninsured driver.
Typically covers fire, hail, theft, collision with an animal, vandalism, and falling objects among others. (subject to a deductible).
Protects you or a family member if injured or killed in an accident caused by an uninsured/under-insured motorist.
Allows one 'free' at-fault accident, meaning your rates will not increase on your first accident if you remain with the same provider.
Windows are included in comprehensive* however; you have the option to remove this coverage to lower your premium. (*Not Included in Alberta.)
You can extend your car insurance coverage to protect you while driving a rental vehicle, up to a certain limit.
In the event of a "total loss", this coverage will protect you from depreciation. You’ll be entitled to the original price you paid/current sale price.
This allows for the protection of your “claims free discount” in the event of your first claim.
Our Reviews
I have nothing but exceptional service from Ashley Bushfield at Surex, quickly responds and takes cares of anything I need for my insurance needs… prices are amazing too… thanks for everything you do!! Highly recommended!!
Mostly great help but I feel when your contract wasn’t renewed for car insurance contacting your customers by email should have at least should got a phone call to their customers when the email wasn’t acknowledged by customer for whatever reasons… but something as important as having no insurance should have required a phone call by the company and the broker should have an alternative option for it’s customers
I had a great experience with Ashley at Surex. She was able to get me insured the same day and sent over my policy right away. The process was quick, and smooth. I’m very happy with the quality of her work and the service, I’d definitely recommend Ashley and Surex to anyone in Ontario looking for reliable insurance.
I have had the pleasure of dealing with Veronique Abbott, with Surex!!!I have spoke to her on the phone and through email!! She is always a pleasure to speak with, so prompt at getting back to me and answering any questions I have!! I had a few advisor with Surex and Veronique is a 11 out of 10! I would definitely recommend Veronique to anyone!!

Car Insurance in the Northwest Territories - What You Need to Know
A few key factors go into pricing auto insurance in the Northwest Territories. They are:
- Insurance data — The geographic area you live in can impact your car insurance rates. For instance, if you live in an area that sees minimal auto insurance claims, then your car insurance rate will be less — all things equal — compared to if you live in an area that has a high amount of car insurance claims.
- Your personal driving history — The auto insurer you choose for your car insurance needs will need to know, and verify, your prior driving history. This relates to at-fault accidents, as well as driving tickets/convictions.
- The type of auto insurance coverage you’re looking for — In Northwest Territories, there are three degrees of car insurance coverage available. They are:
- Third-Party Liability: By law in Northwest Territories, this is the minimum auto insurance coverage required.
- Liability, Collision & Comprehensive: This is the maximum amount of auto insurance coverage available in Northwest Territories. Often referred to as full coverage.
- Liability, Collision OR Comprehensive: If auto insurance was sized like sweaters, this would be the medium. If you want more than the minimum but feel the maximum coverage is too big/much, you can choose to add one of collision or comprehensive to your liability coverage.
If you’re leasing or financing a vehicle, know that there’s an extremely large chance full coverage — liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage — will be required on your vehicle, as per your leasing/financing agreement.
Aside from teaming up with the best insurance broker, the clearest path to getting more affordable car insurance rates in the Northwest Territories is by being eligible for auto insurance discounts. Auto insurers offer discounts to qualified individuals, as they deem them a client they’d like to have. The type of clients car insurers want are those that always pay their bills and those that are great drivers.
- Good credit discount — Typically, this is the largest car insurance discount auto insurers will offer. Because of this, whether when filling out an online car insurance quote on our website, or when speaking with your Surex Personal Assistant, you’ll be asked if we can do a soft hit of your credit score. This soft hit will not impact your rating. If the soft hit shows your credit is 650+, you can be eligible for an auto insurance discount that can save you up to 20% off your annual car insurance premium amount.
- Claims-free discount — One of the best ways to demonstrate you’re a responsible driver is to not be involved in at-fault accidents. Shocking, we know! If you’ve gone 6+ years without an at-fault claim on your record, it’s a good idea to shop the market and compare insurance companies. Some insurers will offer a claims-free discount of up to 10% off your annual premium amount to earn your business.
- Conviction-free discount — Avoiding traffic tickets, for an extended amount of time, usually shows how dedicated you are to obeying traffic laws. Or you’re super lucky… Regardless, if you’ve gone three (or more) years without a traffic conviction, you’re eligible to receive a convictions-free discount, which can lower your auto insurance premium amount by up to 10%.
The easiest way to obtain affordable car insurance rates from an auto insurance company in the Northwest Territories, as a new driver, is to pass a certified driver’s training course.
As a new driver, you have yet to build up a history demonstrating your driving ability, for better or worse. Because of this, auto insurers rely on their data, which shows new drivers tend to be involved in more at-fault accidents.
Again, you personally, have yet to accrue driving history to show otherwise. This is where passing a certified driver’s training course comes in. Most of the top car insurance companies in Canada will increase your driver’s star rating by two stars for passing a certified driver’s training course. This uptick in star rating is the equivalent of adding two clean years of driving to your record.
Going from zero years of clean driving history to two years, via a certified driver’s training course, can save you up to 15% off your annual auto insurance premium amount.
Whether you’re a new driver, or a driver from a foreign country without access to your previous country’s driver’s abstract, consider this option if you want to get an automobile insurance quote for low-cost auto insurance in the Northwest Territories.

Surex insurance tips & advice
Insurance helps Canadians in need, but honesty is essential. Filing a false claim is considered fraud and can lead to serious legal and financial consequences.
Electric vehicles in Canada cost more to insure than gas cars. Surex data shows EVs average $3,131 yearly, versus $2,289 for gas—about 37% higher.
Road trips are a classic summer tradition, but before hitting the road, check what your car insurance covers for long drives or rentals to avoid surprises.
