Travelers and the Definity acquisition

On Jan. 2, 2026, Definity Financial Corporation (the parent company of Economical Insurance) officially completed its acquisition of Travelers Canada. Travelers’ personal insurance (home and auto) and most of its commercial insurance operations in Canada are now owned and managed by Definity.

Travelers Canada will continue to operate its leading surety and new home warranty business.

What this means for customers

For customers, there are no immediate changes to the day-to-day insurance experience. Your current policy will remain in place with the same terms, conditions, and coverage limits, and your premium payments, billing and policy documents will continue as normal. While Definity will gradually manage more behind-the-scenes operations over time, for now it’s business as usual.

For claims, renewals, endorsements, or any policy questions, please continue to reach out to your Surex Advisor who can guide you through the process.

What separates Travelers Insurance from other insurance companies in Canada?

Travelers Insurance isn't just a good company; they're one of the top-rated providers in the country! Here are a few of the reasons why Travelers Insurance is among the top-rated insurers in Canada:

A unique history

The Travelers Insurance Company has deep roots in the North American insurance industry. As the name implies, Travelers Insurance started as a small travel insurance company in Canada (primarily for railroad travellers).
