Despite Government Promise, Ontario Car Insurance Rates Increase Again

When elected in 2013, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne promised her Liberal government would reduce car insurance premiums by an average of 15% by August 2015.

Nearly two years past the deadline, car insurance premiums are still increasing in The Heartland Province.

According to the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, car insurance rates increased 1.24% last quarter.
When pressed about her pre-election promise to lower auto insurance rates, Premier Wynne called the target a ''stretch goal''.

"couple talking"

Due to the amount of insurance fraud and high number of stolen vehicles in the province, Ontarians already pay significantly higher car insurance premiums than the rest of the country.

With the next provincial election less than a year away, it will be interesting to see how political parties address or maneuver around a topic that is always prime for discussion.
