Ontario: Get a Winter Tire Discount on Your Car Insurance
Winter tires are not required, by law, in Ontario. However, if you use them, during the winter months, you can save on your car insurance premiums.
The benefit of using winter tires in the cold and snow, as opposed to summer or all-season tires, is in the compound of the rubber. The specialized compound has the ability to grip in snow and react favourably to freezing temperatures. Aside from potential car insurance savings, winter tires are an added safety measure for winter driving.
Winter tires are marked with the M + S sign or the mountain snowflake. Winter tires are most effective when they have at least 3.5mm of tread depth.
